Sports Amaju Pinnick vows to build a football culture in Nigeria

President of the Nigeria Football Federation(NFF) Amaju Pinnick has said that his administration's is committed to building and sustaining a good football culture in Nigeria.

Pinnick, who succeeded Aminu Maigari said commended the governor of Akwa Ibom, Godswill Akpabio, for his investment in football and birthing the 30,000 capacity stadium in Uyo.

The former Delta FA chairman said that the NFF have already began work, but urge Nigerians to have faith in them to succeed.

"I came on a vision which can be split into the short, long and medium term. We (NFF) are not concerned only about winning because that does not define success,” Pinnick told Supersport during the commissioning of the Akwa Ibom Stadium in Uyo.

"Victory is not all about winning, it’s all about creating and sustaining a football culture and that is what we want to do in Nigeria.

"Taking a look at England as an example, they have the best football culture. We hope for a situation whereby youths will see the game and build a career and also see football as business.

"For instance, to look at the various clubs in Nigeria and see how they can be quoted in the stock exchange.

"We have started work and we are sending coaches abroad to learn about match reading and by the first week of December, we are sending referees to England for first class internship because we want to build our referees and capacities off the field. goal

"We have a lot to do and we can only appeal to Nigerians towards believing in what we set out to achieve, and I believe at the end of our tenure, we might not have gotten there but we would have gotten to an appreciable level where people will appreciate the extent to which we have gone,” he added.
