Oscar-winning American actor, Philip Seymour Hoffman, was reported dead by the BBC today. He died at his New York home from drug overdose. He was aged 46.
Several fellow actors have since begun paying their tributes to him.
His body was found after his friend called emergency services. The police say that his death was the apparent result of a drug overdose.
Hoffman became an household name in the 1990s with films like Boogie Nights and the Big Lebowski, and he went on to win the Best Actor category of the Oscars for his portrayal of the writer Truman Capote in 2005.
He also featured in several independent films and Hollywood blockbusters like Mission Impossible Three. His latest role was in the Hunger Games. His family has described his death as “tragic and sudden.”
