The Dean of the Anglican Church of Nigerian, Archbishop Ignatius Kattey, was abducted on Friday, the 6th of September, 2013 as he journeyed from Eleme to Port Harcourt in the company of his wife, Beatrice. Though he and his wife were both kidnapped, the abductors freed Mrs. Kattey following a chase by the police.

In a statement released y the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Angela Agape, the Command has intensified its efforts in order to apprehend the hoodlums and rescue the bishop unharmed. As of yet, no ransom demand has been made by the kidnappers.

Anglicans and other residents of the State have denounced the kidnappers of people with no regard for God or His ministers.

According to some residents, the lack of the police to solve the rising incidences of abduction in the state is the main cause why kidnappers would target a man of God.
