An Apapa Chief Magistrates' Court in Lagos on Tuesday granted bail in the sum of N300, 000 to a 40-year-old man, Tony Ojebor, charged with raping a co-tenant’s child.

Ojebor, a resident of Apapa, Lagos, is facing a count charge before Chief Magistrate Oluyemisi Adelaja.

Adelaja also ordered that the accused must produce two sureties, who must show evidence of tax payments to Lagos State Government.

She held that one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the accused.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, ASP Soji Ojaokomo, told the court that the accused had sexual intercourse with the minor twice in his room.

Ojaokomo said that the child’s mother caught the accused while he was committing the crime.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Section 137 states that any person who has sexual intercourse with a child is guilty of a felony and is liable to imprisonment for life.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The court adjourned the case till July 2 for mention.
