The national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, yesterday insisted that his rivals for the exalted party position stepped down voluntarily to enable him to emerge as the new leader of the party.

Odigie-Oyegun, who clinched the APC top job at the party’s national convention held in Abuja on Friday, debunked the claims in some quarters that some contenders for the chairmanship slot of the party were forced to withdraw from the race.

Specifically, he debunked the claim by his top rival, Chief Tom Ikimi, that he was compelled to withdraw from the contest. He said it was not true that the former minister of foreign affairs was asked to drop his aspiration by the party’s leaders.
