Governor Rauf Aregesola has offered his condolences to Osun Muslim community over the passing on of the Chief Imam of Osogbo, Sheik Mustafa Ajisafe, on Monday.

Ajisafe, 87, who was also the President General of the League of Imams and Alfas, South West, Edo and Delta states, died at his residence in Osogbo after a brief illness.

In his condolence message, the governor described the death of the late imam as a big loss to the Muslim community in Osun and Nigeria as a whole.

Aregesola described Ajisafe as "a cleric of repute" in the message, signed by Mr Semiu Okanlawon, the Director of Bureau of Communication and Strategy in the Governor’s Office.

"The death of Sheikh Ajisafe is a big loss to the Muslim Ummah in Osogbo as well as the entire state and country because he preached peace and unity while alive.

"His preaching at home and his gospel of Islamic scholarship will greatly be missed,’’ the governor said.

Aregbesola prayed for repose of the soul of the late cleric, and urged members of the various Muslim societies in the state to continue the good work he started.

The remains of the late imam will be buried on Wednesday.
