The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi, on Tuesday announced temporary suspension of its nine-months-old strike.

Malam Kabiru Yunusa, the Chairman of the union said the suspension was to allow students complete the 2012/ 2013 academic session that was disrupted by the strike and that lecturers would resume on Monday, April 28.

He assured that the resumption was not meant to sabotage the ongoing nationwide strike by ASUP.

"Our branch is only expecting the unconditional implementation of CONTISS 15 in the near future," he told newsmen in Birnni Kebbi.

"The Federal Government has directed the national chairman of ASUP to liaise with the Head of Service and the Minister of Education to consider how the disparity between university Degree and HND will be bridged,'' he said.
