Politics Aviation Ministry Owes N174bn On Projects - Leadership

The Ministry of Aviation owes a total debt of N174billion from its execution of projects from 2011 to May 2014, while it has paid N61.4billion.

This was disclosed by the supervising Minister of Aviation, Dr. Samuel Ortom, when the Senate Committee on Aviation led by its Chairman, Hope Uzodinma, on an oversight visit to the ministry yesterday.

A breakdown of the debts by Ortom showed that with three phases of work at the airports, Phase 1 has 14 projects completed out of 17 with N9.7bn spent while N740million is the debt; Phase 2 has most of the 184 projects ongoing with N35.5bn paid and N22.1 in debt; Phase3 has N4.1bn paid and N59bn in debt; Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA) owes N31billion; Special Projects oweN16billion; security projects owe N9.4billion; renovations of Enugu and Bayelsa international terminals owes N16bn with N12bn paid, and a loan of N18.2billion.
