On Thursday, the Council of States passed a resolution that terrorism in Nigeria must end before December, 2014.
The council of states meeting was presided over by Vice President, Namadi Sambo ; attended by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal ; all living former Heads of State except former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.). Senate President, David Mark, was also absent.
Governors Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom; Babangida Aliyu of Niger; Sullivan Chime of Enugu; and the National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.), briefed State House correspondents at the end of the meeting.
Among other issues, the council discussed the likelihood that boko haram was using the kidnapped Chibok girls as suicide bombers. After the meeting, NSA told newsmen, "What really can anybody do? The Chibok girls who are in captivity are not under government control. The only thing we do is try and address those who are outside who will have contact with them. If they are released today, we have a programme we put them through to make sure that if there is any indoctrination, we try at least to reduce the intensity if we don’t release it completely. That is all we can do before they go back into normal life.
The council also frowned on the registration of Nigerians in any part of the country.
Do you believe that boko haram insurgency can be squelched before December, 2014?
