Heavy rainfall on Monday night helped, the Emir of Gwoza, Muhammed Timta, a district head in the town, Hakimi Ibrahim and several other residents escape from their Boko haram captors.
The residents had been trapped on the mountain since Wednesday when Boko Haram insurgents ran over the town, killing scores of people and burning virtually every building including the police station, the local government secretariat, and the emir’s palace. The Boko Haram terrorists had taken over Gwoza, and barricaded the foot of the mountain to prevent those trapped from escaping.
Premium Times reported that the heavy rainfall helped the residents escape to to nearby Madagali Local Government in Adamawa State.
A relative of one of the escapees listed the Emir of Gwoza as one of those who escaped. The escapees have been moved to a refugee camp in Uba, a border community between Adamawa and Borno.
