President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday signed the Legislative Houses (Power and Privileges) Bill 2018.

The Act grants legislators in the National Assembly and state Houses of Assembly immunity from litigation for actions taken in plenary or committee proceedings.

It strengthens the power of the legislators to summon any person to appear before them and give evidence.

It equally empowers an officer of the legislative house to arrest any person who commits an offense against the Act.

According to his Senior Special Assistant on National Assembly Matters Senator, Ita Enang, he said Buhari also assented to seven other bills passed by the National Assembly into law.

The bills are:

1. The National Senior Citizens Center Act, 2018 to cater for the needs of the elderly.

2. The National Institute of Legislative Studies (Amendment) Bill 2018

5. The Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria (Establishment) Bill 2018

6. The Chartered Institute of Local Government and Public Administration Bill 2018

7. The Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (Establishment) Bill 2018.

This is not good. This is not good at all. We're giving more power to the powerful.

They were corrupt with the little power they had. Giving them more power will make things worse.

What is going on in this country?

Who is keeping those people murdered by herdsmen in Benue? Who is keeping the people displaced by Boko Haram and struggling to eat every day in Maiduguri? Who is keeping the interns suffering on minimum wage in Lagos and Abuja?

It is not okay to feel okay. That sense of protection can be yanked away by an encounter with the SARS.

We know the problem. Why can't we do something about it?!!

Grass roots... people have moved from there to social media so the politicians are comfortable knowing they own the labour unions, student unions, market unions, transport unions, cults, prostitute unions, business men, multi nationals etc

They laugh at the twitterati and facebookers!

So until some of those bases are taken back, the talking shop will have no impact.

Just as the 'real' voters are illiterates, the touts, bus conductors and Agberos. These set of people are adequately taken care of by Politicians.
