We have heard a great deal about Nigeria's President-Elect's trip to London, including the fact he was 'stalked' by the out-going minister for petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

The key question: what is the reason for this sudden trip by Nigeria's president-elect? I say sudden because there was a pre-inauguration prayer session planned for yesterday where the president-elect was represented by former vice-president of Nigeria Atiku.

APC spokesman, Malam Garba Shehu, has also issued a statement that this was a trip to give General Buhari and opportunity to rest before he takes office.

Here are other possible reasons for the trip
  1. Complete medical checkup and to get a clean bill of health
  2. Meeting with law enforcement agencies to build relationships on the coming 'crusade' to recover stolen funds
  3. A meeting with donor nations from the middle east for soft loans for Nigeria to help cushion the landing of the APC in office
  4. Opportunity to get as much details on proposed ministerial candidates from agencies outside Nigeria
  5. Opportunity to rest as stated in the APC statement.
My money is on number one. I am sure the president-elect is as fit as a fiddle but the intrigues, especially after the lessons learnt from the Yaradua days, means Nigerians have to keep their eyes and ears open. The same characters and puppet masters are still around.
