The Indomitable Lions must wondering what they did to themselves prior to the commencement of the 2014 World Cup tournament as they lost their opening game by 1-0 to Mexico.

Initially refusing to travel to Brazil for the tournament, the Cameroonian squad had disagreement with their Football Federation(FECAFOOT) over bonuses which led to the players threatening to boycott the competition.

Against Mexico there was little desire or hunger from the Africans who looked jaded and lacking the determination to compete.

But for some bad calls by the officials, the result would have even been worse for Cameroon.

Giovanni Dos Santos saw two of his goals wrongly ruled out for an offside in the first half after twice finding the back of the net.

The Cameroonians rode their luck and they themselves didn't do enough to rattle the North Americans.

The African team hardly threatened, with the only meaningful chance falling to Samuel Eto'o who's shot hit the post and also Benoit Assou-Ekotto's free-kick that went wide.

Oribe Peralta however found the net for the El Tri in the 61st minute well placed on hand to slot in Dos Santos rebound shot.

There was time for Benjamin Moukandjo to almost steal an equaliser, seeing his free header acrobatically saved by keeper Guillermo Ochoa.

"We have five days to recover. We will analyse this together because the match against Croatia is very important if we want to stay alive."Cameroon coach Volker Finke said.
