The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 Northern states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) yesterday alleged that Christians had been marginalised by their Muslim counterparts regarding appointments into public offices. In a statement signed by its Secretary, Prof. Daniel Babayi, CAN said despite the injustice meted on Christians in the North, they would neither retreat nor surrender in ensuring equality irrespective of tribe or religion.
The association was reaction to recent utterances by a Kaduna-based Islamic scholar, Sheikh Abubakar Gumi, who was quoted as saying that it was inappropriate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) to field a northern Christian as presidential candidate in 2015.
