Catherine Samba-Panza Elected as Interim President of CAR

Catherine Samba-Panza, mayor of Bangui has been elected interim president of the Central African Republic. She was elected in a second-round vote by the transitional parliament, securing 75 votes against 53 for Desire Kolingba, the son of a former Central African president.

Samba-Panza is expected to help restore peace to the war torn Central African Republic.
