The Kaduna State government has announced the signing of an agreement with a Chinese firm to construct a refinery in the state, using crude oil from Niger Republic.
Representatives of the Kaduna Refinery Consortium and the China Machinery Engineering Corporation, CMEC, signed the agreement on the project this week in China. Governor Nasir El Rufai signed for the Kaduna consortium, Li Mingqiang, signed for CMEC.
According to a statement from Samuel Aruwan, the government's spokesman, the crude oil will be supplied to the 50,000 barrels per day refinery via a 400-kilometre pipeline from Niger to Kaduna.
During the trip El Rufai also signed a tripartite memorandum with the government of Hebei province and the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, CCECC, to facilitate exchanges and cooperation in the areas of economy, trade, energy, infrastructure, technology, culture, education, tourism and health.
