Sports Commonwealth Games : Organisers lobbying Usain Bolt to take part

Organisers of the 2014 Commonwealth Games are disturbed at the prospects of not having athletics world record holder Usain Bolt compete at the games.

According to Express.co.uk ,though Bolt last year said he would love to take part in the Commonwealth Games, the Jamaican does not have to decide until June – just a month before the commencement of the Games in July.

Bolt has not come out with a firm stance if he would take part, and his position was further plunged into doubt when Ricky Simms, a sporting agent who represents him said he is still considering it.

"Back in November, Usain said he was considering it and would make a decision much closer to the event, possibly after his first few races in May and June. The position is still the same,” the agent said.

However, the organisers admits that they would go as far as lobbying Bolt to have him at the Games.

Peter Murphy, a spokesman for the CGF, said, “As we get closer, both ourselves and Glasgow 2014 will be lobbying for Bolt to be there.

“We’re in constant touch with his management. The case we’ll make is that the Games offer an opportunity to break records that have been standing for decades.

“Usain has won medals at every major event, except the Commonwealth Games. And he will get an unbelievable welcome. Glasgow will grind to a halt.”

Bolt has never taken part in the Commonwealth Games, the only major international competition that he hasn't won a medal in.
