The African Union Mssion in Somalia (AMISOM) said that the death toll from car bomb blast in the southern Somali town of Baidoa has risen to 19, with 20 injured.
Mahamat Saleh Annadif, AMISOM chief, said on Tuesday in Mogadishu that the car bomb attack on Monday hit central town of Baidao, about 250 kilometres southwest of Mogadishu.
He said the attack was the deadliest since the radical Islamist group of Al-Shabaab were driven out by allied Somali government forces and AMISOM peacekeeping troops.
Annadif said the AU Somalia mission would assist those affected by the blast.
"This was a cowardly attack, which highlights the vicious nature of the enemy who continues to target innocent civilians with an aim to curtail the peace process," he said.
Somali government condemned the attack and said the wounded has been evacuated to Mogadishu for further treatment.
