The defection of five of the G-7 governors to the opposing political party of All Progressives Congress (APC) has made the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Jonathan to state that their departure from the once mighty Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) will not affect the latter party in any way.

The President stated, "A governor elected by the people must not see himself as a king who could lord himself over the electorate", while in Paris in an interview just after the end of the two-day summit on peace and security in Africa hosted by President Francois Hollande of France.

The governors famously known as the G-7 are Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Babangida Aliyu (Niger), Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers) and Murtala Nyako (Adamawa), Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara), Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano) and Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto).

President Jonathan has stated that the departure will not hurt, nor hamper the strength and goals of the ruling PDP.
