Investigation by DailyTimes has revealed that rodents, including reptiles, have taken over the Delta state Macopolo buses which have become stagnant, and currently abandoned at a premises along Okpanam Road Asaba.
The abandoned buses have also being allegedly used as refuse dump site by unsuspecting residents of the areas. It was reliably gathered that the last administration spent a whopping sum of N6 billion to purchase the buses to cushion the transportation problems Deltans were facing in the face of the ban on motorcycle (Okada). Further investigation revealed that the buses have also been converted into resting abode by destitutes who retired into the seats during night fall.
A resident (who craved anonymity) told DailyTimes that: “The state government has not shown any concern to the moribund buses which suddenly the disappeared from the streets of Asaba, and others across the state.
However, Delta state's Commissioner for Transport, Vincent Uduaghanin, explained that Governor Okowa inherited workloads in the abandoned buses, adding that huge sums of money are required by the state government to put the buses back on the road.
“The problem with the buses at present are terrible and we cannot afford the cost of repairs at the moment hence they are lying (idle) there.” he said.
