Sports Dolphins And Sharks Embark Indefinite Strike Over Unpaid Salaries

Players of Port Harcourt based teams, Sharks and Dolphins have disclosed that they will be boycotting the rest of the league games until their unpaid financial entitlements are settled.

“We have downed tools. We will not play again until our financial entitlements are paid.

“This (the Sharks versus Dolphins NPFL clash) is our last game this season unless something is done,” an angry Odinga said.

Sharks are currently in 16th on the league log on 36 points while Dolphins are 17th on 34 points from a possible 93.

Rivers State Governor, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike (CON), approved the payment of eight months’ salary arrears to players of both clubs in June but the players insist the money paid “was not the actual thing.”

“Yes, we thank the governor for the money he approved just three weeks after he assumed office but that was not the actual thing.

“What was approved was the old salary structure for players and not the enhanced salary structure,” he said.

The Dolphins captain, Festus 'Agada' Austin, also stressed that players of the club had also embarked on an indefinite strike.

“We will not train again unless we are paid,” he said.

Olawale Isiaka of Dolphins also pleaded with Governor Wike to come to their aid.
