A man wrote goodbye letters to his family as he lay dying in the wreckage of his van after crashing into a remote ravine in Utah.

David Welch, 54, disappeared after leaving home in Manhattan, Kansas, on September 3.

His body was discovered on October 18 by a hitchhiker who spotted the crash site on a desolate stretch of Interstate 70 - more than 50 miles from any town and nearly 900 miles from his home.

Not to seem heartless, I'd just say I find the story "touching". In his last moments, the family can live with the consolation that he thought of them.

Let's again believe that I am fighting to hold back tears, i'd say the story is gripping and endearing for the romantic at heart.

Snapping back to reality, there are many questions I'd have loved to have answers to.

What was he doing So far away from a nearby city?

From the report he drove and crashed all by himself. Meaning he never told any of his loved ones where he was heading to. Why?

September 3 to October 18. That's a very long time to get missing without any possible lead as to his whereabouts. He just drove off. Why again?

R.I.P David Welch. Guessing you lived a fulfilled life.

Probably, he wasnt in good terms with his family and when it was obvious to him that he was gonna die.....he had to put something down.

Gbam!! This, no doubt, should be the main reason why tears would not flow freely from my eyes.

David Welch was indeed a smart man. When people say they wish they could share their feelings with loved ones before they die, take the initiative and write the message (blood stains last longer; I strongly recommend it).

To avoid coming off as a heartless mortal, I better stop tying...

@Jules....whatsup? did you go to uyo?

Pardon my boredom induced trouble-seeking comment.

...I'm guessing she did or probably did not. Point is that we in this community could care less to know more about how this convo will play out.

Try sending a private message... I think that such feature is still readily available.

Don't add this against my deeds please. Still love you Kenneth Chiamobi. **no homo**.

@The_HeadCase, I'd need your help to put out this fire I just foolishly started with Kenneth when it goes awry.

You know what buddy@phealip, you're right. I shouldn't have added a private message here.
On the other hand, really it seems foolish to be the only one to comment on that message. One Love!
All the same, No offenses!
But next time, try to "copy" my name correctly....its Chimaobi and not Chiamobi.
Else...there could an intense exchange of grammer here.
#winks!

**sighs** Okay sorry for spelling your name wrongly (let's pretend I care enough to get it right the first time).

My apologies bro...

@Bolanle Akanji, well, I specifically mentioned "Nigerians" when I tagged you guys because I know Nigerians are notorious for apathy under these circumstances. Now consider what @phealip has done/written here and tell me if I was misinformed in my belief.

@Kenneth Chimaobi, I had the same notion you had about the disappearance of the man. We may never be able to understand the extraneous circumstances that led up to his writing such a letter to his family, but I am touched that he did at least think of them in his last minutes on earth. Shows he cared.

And everything else - your petty squabbles - that is to you, Phealip and Kenneth, is meaningless and ultimately laughable in the face of such catharsis.
