A Louisville, Kentucky teacher in a Catholic school has chosen to resign instead of taking paid leave after parents expressed worry over her trip to Kenya.

The religious education teacher, Susan Sherman, who is also a registered nurse went to Kenya on a mission and when she returned, St. Margaret Mary school asked that she take a precautionary 21-day leave and produce a note of health from her doctor.

She, however, chose to resign.

Cecelia Price, chief communications officer for the Archdiocese, said the decision to request the leave came from the school itself.
