Ebola-affected African countries are asking their international donors to cancel their debts and give them about $6 billion in over 2 years to rebuild their economy which has critically been affected by the deadly disease.

Ernest Bai Koroma, the president of Sierra Leone said this ahead of the leaders of Guinea and Liberia who gave their regional construction programmes in a Washington meeting on Friday.

He said: “Our social services are ruined, our economies have halted, and we need a real Marshall Plan to take us out of the woods.

“The three nations also need about $4 billion in debt forgiveness over and above the relief already provided.

“If that (debt) is cancelled and support is provided to our regional programme, it will take us a long way forward in our transformation agenda."
