The Edo state chapter of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has launched an empowerment programme for widows in the state.

PDP Edo State Chairman, Mr Dan Orbih, said the programme was designed to cushion the effect of the Edo state government's harsh policies on widows and the people in general. He said the initiative became necessary because of the actions and decisions of some public officials.

In addition to the N1,000,000 already raised for the programme, Orbih made a personal contribution of N5oo,000.

The money was presented to the Oredo women leader of the party, Mrs. Pat West Erhabor, for disbursement to more than 50 widows who were present at the event. N250,000 was kept aside for Mrs Joy Ifijeh, the widow who was reprimanded by Governor Adams Oshiomhole for trading on walk way. (NAN)
