Edo workers on Tuesday started a three-day warning strike over some lingering labour disputes with the state government.

The Edo chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Dec. 1, in Benin had directed the workers to embark on the strike if the state government failed to meet their demands.

According to the Edo NLC Chairman, Mr Emmanuel Ademokun the workers want the immediate payment of the balance of 20 per cent of consolidated salary structure for health workers in the state.

Ademokun said that the workers, among other demands, wanted the implementation of the balance 10.5 per cent Teachers Special Allowance (TSA) as the state government earlier agreed with the NLC.

He said that the government should also address the non promotion of public servants since 2011 and the immediate constitution of the board Edo State Civil Service Commission.

Ademokun said that NLC had on Nov. 29 notified the state government of its resolve to embark on the strike.

A visit to some of the agencies in the state showed that most of the gates to the establishments were under lock and key.

The leadership of the NLC also urged the workers to ignore government’s ``no-work-no pay’’ threat.
