Egypt: Sky News Cameraman Killed

A sky news cameraman, Mick Deane was killed in Cairo, Egypt today as he covered the violent unrest in Cairo.

Deane was 61years old and had worked for Sky for 15 years, based in Washington and then Jerusalem. He also worked for CNN in Rome and London.

Samir Bazbaz, producer at Sky News, told CNN that Deane was shot inside the Rabaa al-Adawiya camp, where security forces have been trying to clear supporters of ousted President Mohamed Morsy.

"Michael was about to lift the camera on his shoulder (when) a sniper from the other side opened fired and killed him instantly," Bazbaz said. "The moment he lifted the camera he was shot dead by a sniper."

Deane has been described as a brilliant journalist by John Ryley, head of Sky News.

UK Prime Minister David Cameron said via Twitter: "I am saddened to hear of the death of cameraman Mick Deane, covering Egyptian violence. My thoughts are with his family and @SkyNews team."

Meanwhile, therest of the Sky News team in Cairo was unhurt.
