The Egyptian general, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi who ousted former President Mohamed Morsi has been chosen as Time's Person of the Year in the polls beating Miley Cyrus and others to the title.
He won the prestigious title with 26.2 per cent (449,596) of the popular poll thanks to overwhelming support from his country.
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, received 20.8 per cent of the vote (356,771), and American pop star Miley Cyrus, received 16.3 per cent (279,300).
A variety of groups competed to rig the vote in favour of their choice almost leading to the competition being declared a farce.
Cyrus was in first place as at last week almost making history due to a hacker duo known only as Gains and Marek. The pair discovered a loophole in Time's public voting process allowing them to give thousands of phantom votes to the person of their choice.
Others also tried to rig the popular vote. The 4chan community in favour of NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden and even The Syrian Electronic Army in favour of Bashar al-Assad.
Time Magazine assured the public that it was aware of the attempts and would only count valid votes.
It revealed this week that, in the end, Egypt 'accounted for the largest number of votes on the Time.com poll.'
The final decision on the Time Person of The Year will be made by Time's editors next week.
