Ekiti State is one place which has become keenly contested over the years as it has continously gained relevance since its creation in October 1996. The state is originally an agrarian one as agriculture is the main occupation of the people of Ekiti and it is the major source of income for more than 75 per cent of the population.
Some of Ekiti’s agricultural produce are cash crops such as cocoa, oil palm, kolanut, plantain, bananas, cashew, citrus and timber; arable/food crops such as rice, yam, cassava, maize and cowpea. Its active population is mostly engaged in the state’s civil service also.
