A National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) member was set on fire by her ex-boyfriend. Winifred Okey, 23, a graduate of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State, was in her room with a roommate at the corper’s lodge in Asari Toru Local Government, when her ex-boyfriend set the room ablaze.
The jilted lover had entered her room while Winifred and her roommate had been asleep, emptied a keg of petrol on the door and set it on fire. Residents were able to rush to save both ladies. Winifred unfortunately died later due to the burns she had sustained.
The State Criminal Investigation Department has arrested the culprit, who had evidence of committing the crime from the burns he had sustained in the process of lighting the fire that murdered Winifred.
When questions were asked as to the motive of the crime, friends stated that the culprit had been sending threat messages to the deceased, who had allegedly jilted him for another lover.
