On Sunday, the Kaduna airport was shut down after its control tower was completely razed down by fire. The fire started at about 3pm.

A statement issued by Ibrahim Abdulsalam, Managing Director, Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, NAMA, said the agency has ordered the urgent deployment of the agency’s mobile tower currently in Abuja to Kaduna airport to resume normal services by Monday 21, 2014.

"There is no cause for alarm as we are on top of the situation. Our mobile tower is capable of handling normal traffic as it is well equipped with necessary ATC console to do that,” the managing director assured.

Mr. Yukubu Datti, general manager, corporate communications for the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, said the cause of the fire outbreak is yet unknown.

He also said that all personnel on duty were safely evacuated, and a NOTAM (Notice To Air Men) statement had been issued informing operating airlines locally and across the globe of the development.

"The Kaduna airport has been temporary closed down following a minor fire incident at the control tower, which has since been brought under control with no casualties". Datti added.
