The immediate past Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom, Mr Nsima Ekere, has appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan to intervene and actualise the construction of the Ibaka Deep Seaport in the state.

Ekere made the appeal while fielding questions from journalists after the inauguration of the South-South Zonal Office of the Goodluck Support Group (GSG) in Uyo.

The office was inaugurated by Mr Ahmed Gulak, the Special Adviser to the President on Political Affairs, on Tuesday.

The former deputy governor said that the seaport had the capacity to create thousands of jobs, grow the economy and change the perception of Akwa Ibom as a civil service state.

He commended the collaboration between the federal and state government on the development of the seaport, but stressed the need for commencement of work at the site.

The former deputy governor, who is a member of the Elders’ Advisory Council of the GSG, lauded Jonathan for privatizing the nation’s power sector, saying it was aimed at improving electricity supply in the country.
