Ralph Uwechue former President-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo is dead. He died at the age of 79 in Abuja.

Some members of Ohaneze Ndigbo have expressed shock over the death of their immediate past President-General. Chief Gary Igariwey, President-General of the organisation described Uwechue's death as shocking and unfortunate.

Igariwey said the fatherly advice of the late president-general would be missed by the organisation.

"He helped in transforming the face of Ohaneze with his mature advice and knowledge of the Nigerian political space, having been exposed too early in Nigerian affairs. He believed so much in the Igbo cause and there are not too many people who have the same kind of perception he had.

"We will miss him dearly,’’ Igariwey said.

The former Public Relations Officer of the organisation, Mr Ralph Ndigwe, said the country had lost a pillar.

Ndigwe, who said that Uwechue lived a life worthy of emulation, called on present leaders to toe his footsteps to take the ethnic group to higher heights.
