France has been dealt a blow going into the 2014 FIFA World Cup after key player Franck Ribery has been ruled out of the tournament.

Les Bleus coach Didier Deschamps confirmed that Ribery will not be making the trip to Brazil after failing to recover from the injury setback that will kept him out.

The Bayern Munich player who has been nursing a back pain for the past few weeks pulled out of a training session with an MRI test result proving that he cannot recover in time for the tournament.

"He is not capable of training for a few weeks, let alone playing a game," Deschamps told a news conference.

"He had to stop in training, the pain was too strong," he added.

"We made checks in the beginning of the afternoon, checks that confirmed the situation has aggravated."

Clement Grenier,is also the other player who will join Ribery out of the French squad, with the Lyon player equally ruled out with an injury.

Southampton's Morgan Schneiderlin and Montpellier's Remy Cabella, have both been drafted in to replace them.
