Nigeria's top officials in the petroleum sector seem to be under a lot of pressure.
Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu, and the Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Maikantu Baru, in their own specially unique ways have stated that there's no plans to increase petrol pump price in Nigeria.
According to a report from The Nation, Maikanti Baru, Ibe Kachikwu held a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Villa today.
Emerging from the meeting first, Baru was quizzed if there are plans to review the template for the price of petrol.
There had been reports that a meeting of former GMDs of NNPC had recommended increase in fuel price, claiming that the current price is no longer sustainable. This is largely due to the naira's depreciation against the dollar.
Baru declined to answer the question and referred journalists to the Petroleum Products Pricing and Regulatory Agency (PPPRA).
Asked if there will be a review of the price, he said, rather curtly, "there is nothing like that.”
Kachikwu reportedly emerged 15 minutes later and directed journalists to speak with Baru on the matter.
When told that Baru had declined comments on the matter, Kachikwu said there was no memo before the Federal Government asking for a review of the fuel price.
