Black market traders in Kaduna are making brisk business, as petrol scarcity re-surfaces across the metropolis and environs.

Investigations showed that the traders, who have taken advantage of the scarcity, now sell a four-litre gallon of petrol at N800.

A black market trader, Bashir Ish, who operates along Muhammadu Buhari way, in Kaduna, said on Monday that he has made reasonable profit since the fuel scarcity started over a month ago, adding that he saves N5, 000 daily.

Another petrol black market trader, Mr Haruna Usman, who operates at Leventis road interchange, said he saves about N60, 000 weekly from the sale of petrol on the street.

Also speaking, Isyaku Mohammad, a student turned black market petrol trader, said that he entered into the business to augment his needs, especially for his studies.

Mohammad, who also sells a litre of petrol at N200, described the trade as highly profitable.

Alhaji Kabir Umar, President, Petroleum Dealers Association of Nigeria, said that the scarcity of petrol in the area was due to the inability of marketers to get the products.

He urged the Federal Government to make concerted efforts in tackling problems associated with the distribution of petroleum products across the country, to ameliorate the current hardship faced by Nigerians.

Meanwhile, majority of petrol stations in the metropolis and environs are closed.
