Gombe United defender, Uzama Douglas, was shot dead by unknown men believed to be cultists in Benin City on Thursday, CompleteSports reports.
Uzama becomes the second player from the domestic football league to be killed within three months after Shooting Stars defender, Izu Joseph, who was recently killed.
His close friend, explained that Uzama was on break in Benin City, where he was attacked by some Cultists and confirmed dead on arrival at a hospital.
“The killers fled and left my friend in cold blood.”
Management of the Gombe United has also expressed shock over the death of the player.
“The Gombe United family has learned with sadness of the untimely death of our defender Uzama Douglas,” he said.
“This is a sad loss to Uzama’s family, Gombe United and the nation.”
