About 3.7 million Nigerians lost their jobs in the year 2016 due to the country's harsh economy, the fourth quarter employment report of the year by the National Bureau of Statistics, NBS, says.

In addition to this, the number of unemployed Nigerians rose from 7.51 million at the beginning of October 2015 to 11.19 million at the end of September 2016, the report said.

The unemployment rate is high because the country is less productive and people are spending less. This, in turn, causes companies to lose money and downsize.
