Floods caused by torrential rains which lashed Bujumbura on Tuesday have left over 60 people dead and made 10,000 homeless, according to the Red Cross.
The Spokesman of the Red Cross in Burundi, Alexis Manirakiza, said that access to the flooded zones was difficult on Tuesday while rescue operations were being intensified to find the bodies of those who were still missing.
Those who were rendered homeless by the flooding rains have been provided a temporary shelter by the Red Cross at a sports ground in the North of Bujumbura, the nation's capital.
The government has also launched an international appeal for assistance to the victims of the disaster.
