Over the weekend, children of the Late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero paid homage to the new emir Malam Muhammad Sanusi II (Sanusi Lamido Sanusi), however, the first son and patriarch of the family Sanusi Ado Bayero was absent. The family patriarch was one of the major contenders to the Kano throne which was handed over to Nigeria's former central bank governor.

Although Daily Trust claimed that the Patriarch was yet to visit the new Emir of Kano because he was outside the state for medical treatment, other reports have emerged claiming otherwise.

Vanguard also reported that, "Sanusi Ado Bayero, who is the Chiroman Kano, reportedly left the country as soon as it became obvious that he had lost the succession war to the former Central bank of Nigeria, CBN, Governor".

However, the overseas trip is allegedly not the reason for his failure to congratulate the new Emir as Vanguard quotes an unnamed source saying, "we have history repeating itself as it may interest you to know that the same scenario played itself up when late Bayero emerged emir of Kano 51 years ago.

"In 1963, Aminu Sanusi, father of the new emir was Chiroman Kano when Ado Bayero was appointed by kingmakers and he never paid solidarity visit to Ado Bayero, but remained indifferent to emirate activities until he joined his ancestors".
