The Huffington Post reports today that shocking details about the execution of Jang Song-thaek, Kim Jong Un’s uncle have been revealed.
According to news from The New York Times, the Jang’s death was the result of a brutal gun battle between supporters of Jang and the people of the ruling regime. The battle, apparently, was over who controlled key land areas.
In the battle, as reported by Times, Kim’s forces were ordered to regain control of important fishing ground that Jang had previously seized. Jang, however, was not one to give up without putting up a good fight. Main of Kim’s soldiers died during the battle. This resulted in Kim’s fury and he asked that Jang’s top aides be executed.
Times reports that the two aides were executed using antiaircraft machine guns instead of the customary guns or rifles.
A Chinese newspaper, Yomiuri Shimbun reported that Kim was ‘very drunk’ when he issued the death sentence on Jang’s men.
As was reported earlier this month, Jang was executed for alleged treason. His killing was a shocker for many, as many people often considered him a close confidant to Kim. Jang faced accusation of drug abuse and corruption – in a barrage of accusations that could not be verified by Western media.
