There was a mild drama at the presidential villa on Wednesday as President Muhammadu Buhari's chief of staff, Abba Kyari and the Head of the Civil Service of the federation Winnifred Oyo-ita engaged each other in a heated argument over a leaked memo on the reinstatement of Abdulrasheed Maina, a former pension reform boss accused of siphoning state funds who is now on the run from the Economic Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

President Muhammadu Buhari was not in the room when the confrontation happened but Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Senate President Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara, Speaker of the House of Assembly, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, John Odigie-Oyegun; service chiefs and ministers were all present. However, the visitors' and VP's presence failed to calm the nerves of the two senior officials as they went at each other and the confrontation almost turned physical.

It's said that President Muhammadu Buhari was embarrassed by the incident.

"The President was embarrassed when he learnt about the altercation between the two officials," a source said according to Punch.

"He, therefore, asked the two officials to see him after the FEC meeting. It was a gory sight, seeing the two officials almost fighting at the Council Chambers.

“Efforts made by the VP to calm the two officials were rebuffed by the two officials. It was apparent that none of them had faith in each other.”

The events of the meeting between the president and the two officials aren't known but it sure will be tension soaked and filled with reprimands of varying colours.
