How Smart Phone Addicts Are Slowly Killing Themselves

The information being given on the real effects of smartphones on human health has been difficult to pin down. Some studies show that smartphones have no effect on humans, while other studies insist that people need to be careful about how much they use their smartphones every day. The Daily Mail published a report on the findings of Dr. Igor Yakymenko of Ukraine, and the results were very interesting.

Radiofrequency radiation is the type of radiation given off by smartphones, and that radiation can cause imbalances in the human body that can lead to diseases such as cancer and Alzheimer's. According to the study, people who use their smartphones 20 minutes a day for at least five years are three times more likely to get a brain tumor. The element that sets this study apart from the others is that the data was collected over the course of 10 years, and offers some compelling evidence to back up its claims. Dr. Yakymenko warns that cancer and other diseases caused by using smartphones can take decades to appear, and that is what makes responsible smartphone use so important.

What Is The Solution?

The data in the report is shocking, but Dr. Yakymenko does offer some advice on how to decrease, and even eliminate, the possibility of death by smartphone. The most obvious solution is to dramatically reduce the amount of time each day that you use your smartphone. But for many people, this is not a practical solution.

The other suggestion the doctor offers is to use a hands-free device instead of putting the smartphone in direct contact with the ear. By moving the phone away from the ear and using a hands-free device instead, users will eliminate contact with radiofrequency radiation and eliminate the problems it can cause.

Cancer Is Not The Only Concern

Most conditions associated with smartphone use can take years to formulate, which is why it can be said that smartphone addicts are slowly killing themselves. But it is interesting to note that direct exposure to radiofrequency radiation is not the only problem smartphone addicts face. There are other ways in which smartphone use can cause long-term damage, and possibly lead to death years after the user picks up their first mobile phone call.

That Blue Hue

If you think that lying in bed and playing games on your smartphone is just harmless fun, then you may want to think again. According to Information Week, mobile computing devices give off a blue light that tricks the brain into thinking that it is still daytime. The brain stops the process of shutting down for sleep, and your sleep cycle is disrupted.

Many people who feel that they do not sleep well at night may want to consider whether or not they use their mobile computing devices as they lie in bed. Instead of helping you fall asleep, your smartphone is causing your brain to stay awake and that can have damaging long-term effects. The inability to get the proper amount of rest over the course of many years can lead to high blood pressure and even heart disease.

Gaining Weight

Your smartphone can keep track of your exercise routine for you, and it can even give you encouragement to keep exercising. But your smartphone can also allow you to order food, read books, make hotel reservations, watch a movie and do a host of other things without ever leaving your couch. Over time, the weight gain created by the convenience of a smartphone can have damaging effects on your health.

Your Smartphone Is Killing Your Short-Term Memory

Your smartphone eliminates the need for you to have to remember anything, and that is killing your short-term memory. Prior to smartphones, people had to memorize phone numbers, dates and important information if they wanted to be able to use it later. But now that smartphones do all of the remembering for us, the human brain is not getting utilized properly, and it is causing problems with short-term memory.

Some doctors insist that the damage created by people no longer using their short-term memories is similar to receiving head trauma. While you may remember to turn on your favorite television show at night, you might not remember what happened during the course of the day as your short-term memory has been permanently damaged.

Smartphones make life easier, but they can also have damaging long-term effects on your body. From radiation causing tumors in your brain to the loss of your short-term memory, it is becoming obvious that people need to be more responsible with their smartphone use if they want to avoid serious physical and mental issues as they get older.

The only alternative is to use a speaker phone at all times. However this might end your life quicker as you will irritate everyone and it is only a matter of time before somebody loses it and takes you down.

Not the case if you're in your room. One could also use an earpiece when receiving calls in the public.
