The three principal suspects in the Kano State wedding saga where six reportedly died after drinking a local intoxicant have opened up on how they prepared the killer drink. Weekly Trust recalls that the trio of Abdullahi Shuaibu, Abubakar Musa and Abubakar Aliyu had penultimate Sunday diluted ‘Zobo’, a popular local drink, with a local gin known as ‘Zakami’ during the wedding of one Ahmed Tijjani Musa, a tricycle operator in Unguwa-Uku area of Tarauni local government.
The drink, served during the wedding, led to the death of six guests after which the trio responsible disappeared. There was tension in the area and the wedding ceremony was put on hold. Hours later, the groom was arrested and he spent days in the police cell.
Initial reports said six persons died as a result of the consumption of the drink but a visit to the Ungwa-Uku community has since proved that wrong, with residents informing Weekly Trust that only two persons died.
