For 62-year-old Alhaji Abdullahi Nuhu of Yar Gabas area of Sokoto City, who returned home penultimate Friday to meet a corpse mistaken for his, being prepared for burial, the incident remains a reminder about his mortality. But how is his life after the bizarre episode? Weekly Trust serves you the story.

On April 11, 2014, while Alhaji Nuhu was out, his family got information that he was knocked down by a motorcyclist and that he had died. A picture of a dead man was brought and it was noted have had a strong resemblance to Alhaji Nuhu. So about seven members of the family went to identify the corpse at the Specialist Hospital, Sokoto, and it was brought home. It was while the burial rites had commenced that a perplexed Alhaji Nuhu returned home.

He told Weekly Trust that, as an elderly citizen and experienced Muslim who has seen the ups and downs of life, the incident is just a reminder on how fickle life is. “We can die at any time,” he said. He also disclosed that he subsequently became a celebrity of sorts. “Some people’s attitude changed towards me all of a sudden. They gaze at me, pointing fingers and some even started seeing me in a different light, as if I’m a stranger,” he said.
