Abuja- Kogi state governor Capt Idris Wada (retd.), has been declared by the Supreme court on Friday as the validly nominated candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the December 2011 governorship election in the state.
A member of the party, Jibrin Echocho, had earlier challenged Wada’s emergence as the party’s candidate, claiming that he had been elected as the candidate of the PDP in a previous primary of the party.
But the justices of the apex court according to The Punch dismissed Echocho’s appeal, declaring that Wada was legally nominated as the candidate of the PDP in the 2011 election.
Wada in a statement by his Special Adviser, Media and Strategy, Mr. Jacob Edi described his victory as “freedom received at the highest temple of mother justice,"adding that hopefully, it would put an end to the agitation by his opponents to put spanner in the works of his government.
