The International Monetary Fund (IMF) and Ghana will co-host a high-level sub-regional conference on financial integration for West Africa on Oct. 28 in Accra, an official statement issued by Naoyuki Shinohara, the IMF Deputy Managing Director, has stated.
The conference, which would dwell on the opportunities and challenges of financial integration in West Africa is expected to draw participants across the sub-region including senior policymakers from the ECOWAS, financial sector representatives and experts from international financial institutions.
He said the conference would be used to discuss financial sector issues in the sub-region with a view to addressing its broad implications for West African future economic prospects, and that its discussions would focus on the potential benefits of financial integration for private sector development and the mobilisation of long-term infrastructure financing.
He said that it would also highlight the risks from larger and more inter-connected financial systems, drawing on the experience of other regions.
