Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross Rivers state has urged the states' delegates to the forthcoming National Conference to canvass for resource control and compensation for loss of Bakassi Peninsula to Cameroon.

Imoke gave the charge in Calabar while addressing stakeholders at the Government lodge.

Imoke urged the delegates to consciously advance positions that would be in the best interest of the state. He also told the delegates to canvass for control of national parks, inland waterways, and federal roads in the state.

Imoke said the concept of true fiscal federalism should be seen beyond mere control of resources to enable states to collect and remit revenues from solid minerals. He criticised the Federal Government’s decision to collect revenue from waterways through the Department of Inland Waterways in the states.

The governor said states should be collecting revenues generated from water transportation. He also advised the delegates to present community policing in the states to fight crimes so that it can be included in the Exclusive Legislative List.

Imoke said the State strongly supported the conference. "We need a strong voice to represent the people", Imoke added.
