Sports Independence Rugby Tournament Will Prepare Nigeria For Rio 2016- NRFF Vice President

The Vice-president and Technical Director, Nigeria Rugby Football Federation, Olatunji Fasimoye has insisted that the 2015 Independence 7s Rugby Tournament will prepare the Nigerian Rugby team for 2016 Olympics in Brazil.

This year's edition of the tournament, scheduled for 24th and 25th October will feature16 teams both from within and outside the country at the Onikan stadium.

Fasimoye said, “The teams will be grouped into four and they will then proceed to the quarter-final, semi-final and final.

“More foreign teams are expected this year from the four that took part last year.”

Some of the teams expected are the DHL Western Province Rugby team from South Africa, the Ultimate Rugby 7s team, Rangers RFC and Merlins Internationals from the United Kingdom, and the Accra Sharks of Ghana. The local teams include Barewa RFC of Kano, Cowrie RFC of Lagos, the South-South Rugby Union 7s team, among others.

Cowrie are the defending champions of the tournament. Punch
