A teenage girl who reported her rape to the police in Jalna, India was raped a second time after she was used as 'bait' to catch her attacker.
THE INDEPENDENT reports that the girl had allegedly been raped by two men at knife point on 7 July after she went to meet a man she encountered on Facebook. The men also stole her mobile phone. Police then reportedly sent her back to the scene on two occasions in a bid to capture her alleged attackers.
During the first stint, police followed too closely and an arrest could not be made, while on the second stint, the police did not follow her at all due to a miscommunication.
THE INDIAN EXPRESS reports that on the second occasions, the girl received a call from a man, two days after the first alleged attack, saying that he would return her mobile if she met him at Ambad Chowk, a part of Jalna. Two police teams were immediately deployed to the teenager's home.
Somehow, the girl left the house by motor scooter without the police and as a consequence she approached the rapist alone. The rapist stopped the victim and asked her to get off the road with her headlights switched off. The victim under the assumption that she was being escorted by the police, obliged but later learnt that she had no police official tailing her movements''.
The police, however, nabbed the rapists after the second rape.
